Volunteer ideas.

All Around Awesome Volunteers is a general all around helper in the hospital and what we think of our volunteers.
Chaplain Volunteers are typically pastors in town who come to learn more about and actually practice spiritual/pastoral care.
Department Volunteers help in the needs of the day in departments throughout the hospital.
Director Assistant Volunteers are students from Truman State University or ATSU who want to learn about healthcare administration in a healthcare environment.
Emergency Room Volunteers support patients and families in the Emergency Departments, and also assist staff by running errands and helping with a variety of tasks.
Critical Care Unit (CCU) Host helps bring a listening ear and support to a higher level of care for patients.
Health and Fitness Volunteers help former patients in our Health and Fitness facility help set and accomplish their desired goals.
Information Desk Volunteers welcome everyone into the hospital and guide people to proper locations within the hospital.
Unit Host Volunteers provide reading material, games, and a listening ear to patients and their families.
Waiting Room Host Volunteers support the information desk team and the waiting rooms of the hospital by delivering items to patients and care to the waiting rooms.

 

Volunteering

If you want to work with big hearted people who volunteer just for the love of helping others, come and join us. There are lots of needs, and plenty of potential to make someone's day a brighter place.

Become a volunteer in six easy steps.

Minimum Expectation: 4 hours a week

  1. Application and letter of recommendation
    Complete an application and include a letter of recommendation (from a family friend, professor, minister, etc.) with your application. Your reference should be easy to contact if needed.

    Contact: Email: Chad_Earhart@CHS.net or call (660) 785-1099 with questions. If you add your email in the application, you will be sent a detailed process for volunteering. Otherwise, contact us and we can discuss this over the phone or in person.

  2. Send a reference letter
    Please have someone who is not a family memeber send a reference letter. Your refference merely needs to state that they recommend you as a volunteer at the hospital. Plsese send it via email to Chad_Earhart@CHS.net or via regular mail.
  3. Thirty-minute interview
    This interview will seek to determine your hopes, goals and the place you will be most fulfilled and beneficial.
  4. Orientation class
    Attend our three-hour New Volunteer Orientation. Orientations are scheduled by appointment.
  5. Take Test and get ID badge
    Required for all healthcare professionals and volunteers, a drug screening will be scheduled for you at orientation.
  6. Department Training
    We want you to feel confident in what you are doing and make sure we are consistent in our quality of volunteers we have here. We take pride in our volunteers.
