Bariatric Weight Loss Program

The Bariatric and Weight Loss Program of Northeast Regional Medical Center is a comprehensive program for the education, treatment, and care of patients with morbid obesity who have had or will undergo weight loss surgery. Treatment of morbid obesity includes not only the surgery and post-operative care, but also extensive medical evaluation, dietary counseling, patient and family education, and healthy lifestyle support. We believe in the team approach to weight loss surgery.

Support Group and Informational Sessions

Studies have shown that positive results from weight loss surgery correlate with support group involvement. For information on surgical weight loss options available at Northeast Regional Medical Center, please attend one of our classes. Classes are held every week in the Bariatric Weight Loss Clinic at 5:30 and last approximately one hour. You may bring a family member or friend for support. Classes are free but registration is required by calling 660-626-2463.

Lap-Band™ Procedure

Northeast Regional Medical Center is pleased to be able to offer patients the Lap-Band™ Adjustable Gastric Banding System, a minimally invasive surgery that involves applying an Orosthesis (the Lap-Band) around the stomach – creating a small gastric pouch – and a calibrated opening to the rest of the stomach.

The Weight Loss Clinic offers a multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping patients meet the requirements of a surgical weight loss program. The team includes:

  • David Kermode, DO, Board Certified Osteopathic Surgeon specializing in minimally invasive bariatric and general surgeries
  • Program Coordinator, a bariatric trained registered nurse
  • Registered dietician

The Lap-Band™ procedure is a less invasive surgical procedure, reversible and more flexible than gastric bypass. Other advantages of the Lap-Band procedure include:

  • no intestinal rerouting
  • small incisions and minimal scarring
  • lower risk of complications than other obesity surgery procedures
  • reduced risk of weight regain
  • individualized to the patient's needs via inflation or deflation of the band
  • reduced pain, length of hospital stay and recovery period
