What is Neurology?
Neurology is the science of the central and peripheral nervous systems, which include the brain, nerves, and muscles affected by brain function.
The brain controls virtually everything we do – our breathing, movement, and our ability to reason. When the brain’s ability to function normally is affected by a disease or condition, quality of life decreases.

The Neurological Center of Northeast Missouri treats patients suffering from a variety of neurological-related diseases and conditions including:

Elizabeth Horton, MD Dr. Elizabeth Horton earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago-Pritzker School of Medicine where she also completed a residency in Neurology with a specialty in Child Neurology. Following her residency, Dr. Horton completed a Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Southern California Children's Hospital, Los Angeles.

What is Pulmonology?
Pulmonology, sometimes called “respiratory medicine,” is the specialty that deals with diseases of the lungs and the respiratory tract. Pulmonologists are physicians who have been educated and trained in the diagnosis and treatment of lung conditions and diseases. Typically, pulmonologists are board certified in internal medicine before pursing this specialty. Some are also board certified in critical care for patients on ventilators.
What is Sleep Medicine?
Sleep medicine is a clinical specialty focused on a wide range of sleep disorders that affect more than half of the population of the United States. Having a sleep disorder doesn’t just keep you from enjoying a good night’s sleep. These disorders can have serious medical consequences including high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, memory problems, weight gain, impotency and headaches. Sleep disorders can also affect your mood, your job performance and even lead to serious accidents.

Najama Usmani, MD
Dr. Usmani completed a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY, and at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, NY, prior to joining Northeast Regional Specialty Group. She earned her medical degree from University of Madras, India, and completed her internship and an internal medicine residency at Nassau University Medical Center, East Meadow, NY.
Dr. Usmani is board certified in pulmonolgy, internal medicine, sleep medicine and critical care medicine. She has earned diplomat status with the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
