Northeast Regional Medical Center is a Cornerstone of Kirksville and Northeast Missouri
4/14/2023
KIRKSVILLE, Mo., April 14, 2023 – The skilled and compassionate hands of physicians, nurses and other team members of Northeast Regional Medical Center support the health and well-being of patients who turn to us for expert care. We are here, whenever needed. Beyond providing clinical care, the hospital is a cornerstone of our community and a major contributor to the economic health of Kirksville and Northeast Missouri as a major employer and tax-payer and through our resources to expand and enhance the medical services available close to home. The overall impact is significant and totaled more than $44.5 million in 2022.
Care was provided at more than 84,000 patient encounters, including more than 11,700 emergency department visits, more than 1,800 inpatient admissions and more than 3,100 surgeries. Over 67,000 patients received care across the NRMC affiliated physician and outpatient clinics, including Northeast Therapy Services, Northeast Regional Surgical Specialists, Northeast Regional Medical Group, Northeast Regional Heart Center, and Northeast Regional Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Joy was delivered to local families with the birth of more than 400 babies.
“We help people get well and live healthier by providing quality care for patients,” said Dwayne Blaylock, interim chief executive officer for NRMC. “The residents of Northeast Missouri are fortunate to have this dedicated team of clinicians and caregivers who are making a difference every day.”
NRMC applies its resources to medical services, facilities and technologies that are important to patients. These include the addition of 3D Mammography and upgrades to cardiology equipment in the cardiac catheterization lab. Access has been enhanced with the addition of two primary care providers at Northeast Regional Medical Group and recruitment of a general surgeon means more general surgery is here locally. Capital improvements totaling more than $1.8 million were made to improve the facility and equipment.
NRMC also gives back to the broader Northeast Missouri region by providing over $9.5 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable. And the payment of $4.2 million in property, sales and GRT taxes helps support civic resources and services.
The hospital’s payroll of more than $23.6 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services. Last year the hospital added enhanced benefits to help team members achieve their personal and professional goals, including assistance with student loan repayments, reimbursement of licensure and certification expenses, as well as tuition reimbursement.
Blaylock continued, “We are proud of the care we provide, but that is only one part of the broad impact NRMC has. We are a cornerstone of this community, and we are committed to doing all we can to provide excellent healthcare services and to make Kirksville and the surrounding communities a healthier, better place for all.”
In addition to serving as the residency facility for ATSU medical students, NRMC also serves as one of the primary clinical host sites for all of the surrounding nursing schools including Truman State, Moberly Area Community College, Kirksville Area Technical College, North Central Missouri College, and Indian Hills Community College.
