KIRKSVILLE, MO (September 22, 2025) - Northeast Regional Medical Center (NRMC) recently recognized Shanna Barker, R.N., BSN, with the 2025 Nursing Excellence Award. Barker has worked at NRMC as a labor and delivery nurse since 2018. She also leads the Prepared Childbirth Class for expectant mothers.
The Nursing Excellence Award celebrates nurses who demonstrate the qualities of outstanding care, compassion, service and innovation. The recipient of this award is also someone who is consistently recognized as being a team player, a mentor, and a leader who regularly promotes health in the community.
Barker was surprised with the recognition while surrounded by her department colleagues and was presented with a crystal trophy, a cash award and other gifts.
“Shanna is an exceptional nurse who is deeply valued by both patients and staff. She consistently goes above and beyond, showing genuine care and compassion in every situation,” stated Cynthia Green, BSN, RNC-OB, director for Women’s Services at NRMC. “Her willingness to help whenever needed and her ability to adapt to any challenge make her an incredible team player. She’s highly versatile; she has also been trained in the emergency department where she demonstrates the same professionalism, skill, and dedication. Patients appreciate her kindness and attentiveness, and staff rely on her strong work ethic and positive attitude. She is truly an asset to our team”.
Barker graduated from Truman State University in 2017. She has been married 27 years and has four children. She’s a co-owner of TSB Rentals and is active in her church.
This is the fifth year for the peer-nominated award at NRMC, recognizing the vital work nurses play in the collective purpose to help people get well and live healthier.
