Northeast Regional Medical Center Joins Nationwide Observance of National Rural Health Day on November 16

KIRKSVILLE, Mo., November 14, 2023 – Northeast Regional Medical Center is joining communities across America in celebration of National Rural Health Day (NRHD) on November 16, 2023. The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) and rural-focused organizations throughout the United States set aside the third Thursday of November to recognize NRHD. This annual event is an opportunity to celebrate and honor the individuals and organizations dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of nearly 61 million people living in rural America.

Residents from across the region have multiple options to access healthcare services from primary care to specialists between the providers of Northeast Regional Medical Group, Northeast Specialty Group and Northeast Missouri Health Council. NRMC is working with A.T. Still University, Truman State University and other educational institutions to develop future medical professionals with the goal of retaining many of them in rural communities across the country.

With a shared commitment for improving rural access to health care, Northeast Regional Medical Center and University of Missouri Health Care (MU Health Care) have formed a strategic relationship designed to increase access to specialty services and enhance health care for people living in northeastern Missouri. The relationship will bring MU Health Care physicians and specialty services to Kirksville, expanding medical services that Northeast Regional Medical Center can offer locally, while connecting patients who may need it to higher level care in Columbia.

“Our alignment with MU Health Care builds upon our existing relationship between our two health systems,” said Patrick Avila, CEO of Northeast Regional Medical Center. “MU Health Care physicians provide tele-neonatology consultations to Northeast Missouri Health Council OB/GYN physicians caring for newborns at Northeast Regional and it this sort of unique approach to patient care which allows patients to stay at home and near the family support they need. We look forward to continuing to add additional options for local care as we identify more ways to collaborate with MU Health Care.”
