Maternity Care
Having a baby can be one of the most exciting and rewarding times in a woman's life, and Northeast Regional Medical Center is dedicated to providing expectant mothers and newborns with the finest care during this special time.
Our maternity services are provided by obstetricians, labor and delivery specialists, nurses and other health care providers in a welcoming, comfortable hospital environment. You'll find a range of care from prenatal to postpartum care, including high-risk pregnancy care and advanced labor and delivery services. Our care extends beyond childbirth, with a variety of educational resources offered for new parents.
Labor and Delivery
Our delivery rooms provide everything doctors, nurses and other maternal specialists need to provide you with excellent care during childbirth, including a range of pain management options. Experienced labor and delivery staff utilize advanced medical technology, and manage C-section (cesarean) births and other surgical procedures.
Low-intervention birth options are available. We work closely with you to develop a birth plan that works best for you. Low-intervention options include:
- Unmedicated labor
- Minimal medical intervention
- Natural pain management
- Focus on natural childbirth processes
The first hour of life, often called the golden hour, is a time for bonding between mother and baby. Babies are placed on the mother’s skin immediately after birth or as soon as safely possible. During the first hour, breastfeeding is encouraged, non-urgent procedures are delayed and interruptions are minimized.
At Northeast Regional Medical Center, physicians are skilled at managing high-risk conditions, including multiple births. We specialize in ultrasounds and other diagnostic procedures to assess babies while in the womb, and are experienced in managing pre-existing and newly found complications in expecting mothers, such as hypertension, cardiac disease and diabetes.
The birthing center offers:
- Four spacious labor and delivery rooms
- Ten light-filled patient rooms
- Private baths
- New nursery
- Tele-neonatology consultations provided by MU Health Care physicians
Tele-NICU Services
For high-risk deliveries or for newborns who need extra support, we offer tele-NICU consultations and guidance provided by MU Health Care. Tele-NICU services are offered 24/7/365 so families can receive the specialized care while remaining close to home. In instances when a baby may need a higher level of care, tele-NICU services can be used to determine the best next steps to get baby the care they need and back home.
Support Services and Education
Northeast Regional Medical Center offers a variety of prepared childbirth classes to prepare mothers and families before and after the birth of a child. All of our OB nurses are trained in breastfeeding support. We also offer a lactation consultant. Northeast Regional Medical Center provides access to the WebMD TV Newborn Channel and an educational library for labor and delivery patients. Consultations are available for newborn osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) treatments.
Going Home
Before your baby is discharged from Northeast Regional Medical Center, you can expect that your baby will receive an expanded metabolic screening, hearing screening and congenital heart disease screening. We can also assist with car seat fit and safety. Patients who have a vaginal delivery can usually expect to go home two days after the day of birth, while patients that have a C-section delivery may stay up to four days after the day of delivery. We work with you to meet your birth plan needs and safety, and recommend a minimum stay of 24 hours after delivery.
