2022 Nursing in Excellence Award Winner Announced at NRMC

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (December 8, 2022) - Lucas Hayes, a registered nurse at Northeast Regional Medical Center, was recently recognized as NRMC's 2022 Nursing Excellence Award recipient.
Hayes was surprised with the recognition during a presentation with hospital leadership where he was presented with a crystal plaque and a symbolic check for the cash award he received among other gifts.
Since joining Northeast Regional Medical Center in 2021, Hayes has oriented to several different units and become a preceptor and mentor to his peers.
“Lucas is always willing to float to the unit when asked without complaint,” NRMC Chief Nursing Officer Elizabeth Guffey stated in his nomination form. “He is a great resource for both new staff and contract labor and is always willing to help and answer questions.”
The Nursing Excellence Award was created to honor the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the pandemic. The peer-nominated award program was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence. These characteristics include outstanding care, compassion, service and innovation, and reflect the efforts of someone who is a demonstrated team player and/or mentor to others, is a leader in times of crises, and who regularly promotes health in the community.
“Lucas stays late and comes in extra to help when needed,” Guffey stated in his nomination form. “He is reliable and shows up to his shifts on time and ready to work. He always has a positive attitude. It has been a pleasure to work alongside him.”
